Pursuant to Alabama Act No. 2024-361 (the act), the Alabama Board of Nursing (ABN) has assumed temporary oversight and regulation of professional massage therapy in Alabama effective June 1, 2024, pending the reconstitution of the Alabama Massage Therapy Board, which was terminated by the act and will be reconstituted as the Alabama Massage Therapy Licensing Board (AMTLB).

Effective June 1, 2024, the ABN will begin temporary oversight until a new AMTLB is appointed. Once the Board is appointed the Executive Officer (EO) of the ABN will continue in the EO role for the AMTLB until October 1, 2026.

During the period of temporary oversight and regulation, the ABN’s goal is to improve services and streamline processes for the future.
